Bone Infection
Bone infection is known medically as osteomyelitis. Bone infection can be a health or life threatening condition. The infection can be caused by a variety of microbial organisms such as bacteria, fungus, or yeast. The most common cause of bone infection is by the bacteria staphylococcus aurerus.
How does it happen?
To diagnose this condition, the foot and ankle specialist will thoroughly evaluate the foot and ankle. Blood work, X-rays are initially performed. In some cases, further testing is performed.
This condition can become a life-threatening condition which requires prompt diagnosis and treatment to improve prognosis.

- Infection can enter the bone through the environment ( ie. bone sticking out of body)
- It can spread to the bone from somewhere else in your body through the blood stream
- It can occur from a open wound
